We all know how to be a safe driver. But summer can bring on a whole new set of challenges. We have compiled a list of tips to keep you and your family safe in the summertime.

  1. Be aware of the weather. Summer showers can be dangerous. Be sure to slow down, turn on your headlights and leave a reasonable distance between you and the car in front of you. Use your hazard lights if needed. Extreme heat can cause your car to overheat. Pull over if you notice your car showing signs of being too hot and carry water with you in case of emergency.
  2. Bicyclists and motorcyclists. The beautiful summer weather is inviting to those with bikes or motorcycles. Always be aware and keep an eye out for these motorists. It’s important to share the road safely.
  3. Teen drivers. School is out, and with it comes an influx of young and less experienced drivers. Being alert and driving defensively can help prevent an accident.
  4. Construction. Road construction is very common in the summer months. Slow down, as fines can increase, and be aware of any construction workers.
